The Great Migration of The Harlem Renaissance
The Great Migration of The Harlem Renaissance happened back in the 20th century. It had a lot to do with African Americans migrating. This migration was caused by the push and pull factors. Over 6 million African Americans migrated. The biggest goal was to make it to the north. Most of the African Americans were forced to move and come to Harlem because they were coming from the south hoping for a new life. The Jim Crow Laws help create a little bit more way for freedom for them and this gave them a little hope. Don't get me wrong now, there were still racial groups that hated the thought of this.. They did not want these "colored people" wandering around their town, eating in their restaurants, or riding there buses. But what could they do? Only illegal things but this did not stop them , the culture was coming back alive! They were determined to start their new lives. Much of the hatred came from the white people. They complained that the cities and work units were getting flooded by African Americans. They didn't like this. As time went on many African Americans arose from the south and became very famous to this day. Some of these artists are Bessie Smith, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, and many more! The music that started to develop was blues and jazz. It was like a sweet escape from all the chaos that had been going on around them so in their little pubs this what they would play and listen to. Also African American writing started getting noticed. These writers were Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes . The writers mainly wrote about their freedom and life lessons. Other talents like artists and dancers started coming out also. The businessmen started making these clubs that they could dance and hang out in. I feel that in this era it was probably hard for this group of people because they were hated. It was like being in a place that you weren't wanted. I would be scared and probably anger all the time but that's the difference between the people in modern days. Back then they had reasons to be sad or feel angry about that life but they didn't , they stayed positive, lived life to the fullest, and stood up for what was right! Now that I've informed you on the main point and results of the Great Migration, we are going to move on to the next section. This next section will tell you about the Economical view, Political view, and the Social view of this time!
